On the old message board, I suggested the following:
For those of us who work at some sort of desk job, just leave a d10 by your workspace. It's less common than a d6, curious people who don't know what one is won't think you're a complete freak when you explain that it's just a "die with ten sides instead of six", and it's instantly recognizable. |

The local comic shop got in a batch of gigantic d20s which work well as a combination desk ornament/lethal missile, and should serve the same Secret Purpose.
They're crap for actually gaming with though, since every time you roll them everything else on the table gets knocked down by the vibrations. |

| Yeah, but we're talking subtle here. A normal sized d10 is just some clutter on the desk to the person that doesn't know. A coffee mug-sized twenty-sider? That just screams "Look at me!" |

It would at least be a use for that punch of metal dice I won, they'd damage most of the tables I'm likely to play on... _________________ Mat Bowles

Everyone started reckoning they'd got headaches from the impact noise. _________________ "...if you like your humour coarse and black, this will probably have you rolling on the floor with laughter."

Just yesterday, I was having a conversation with a co-worker and was having trouble thinking of the word "isometric." I finally got it and said, "I kept wanting to say 'icosahedron'." When she didn't know what one was, I said it was a solid shape with 20 sides. From the blank look she gave me I knew she wasn't a gamer.
Does that qualify as a secret (verbal) handshake? |

It sounds more like a bloody close shave!
Dear God man you can't take risks like that! What if she'd realised? You know, that you're a gamer! This is your career we're talking about! You've gotta be more careful. _________________ "...if you like your humour coarse and black, this will probably have you rolling on the floor with laughter."

Hmm...Maybe I should quit reading the Critical Miss boards at work.
Nah. It's worth the risk! |

I avoid mug sized dice like the plague.
Brothers who enjoy inflicting pain and using handy objects as bludgeons can result in some interesting phobias. _________________ "I do not have a girl-friend. I just know a girl who would be very upset if she heard me say that." |

Hey, there's nothing wrong with mug-sized dice! Everyone just needs to clap their hands over their ears before you roll. _________________ "...if you like your humour coarse and black, this will probably have you rolling on the floor with laughter."

YOU have obviously never had the number 17 imprinted on your cheek after a particularly rowdy night of gaming. _________________ "I do not have a girl-friend. I just know a girl who would be very upset if she heard me say that." |

A rowdy night of gaming? Dude, this is roleplaying we're talking about. "Rowdy" in this context means "The host's mom had to come through and ask the players to stop making such a noise." If you're causing physical damage, you're well beyond "rowdy".
But back to dice, there's always the opposite extreme of teeny tiny dice. My standard set is made up of half-sized ones, plus I've also got a bunch of d6's that are only 2mm across. The really tiny ones aren't too practical, but the half-size ones are actually pretty neat. They work just as well and take up far less room.
How does this help us find a secret handshake? It doesn't. But expect my half-size dice factory to do much better business after this. _________________ -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK-----
