For the discussion of Critical Miss magazine, the "works" (such as they are) of
Jonny Nexus, gaming, and life in general. The idea is for this to be a nice friendly
board and as long as no-one acts like a twat it will hopefully stay that way.

I note from Archbishop Nexus' Live Journal that the prophet intends to undertake a sponsored walk and is aiming to raise money for what would seem to be a pretty worthwhile charity.

Now I know that the Archbishop and the Prophet are above worldly panhandling but I'm going to take a leap of faith and interpret the paragraph below as being an invitation to worship using worldly means. If this is a misinterpretation or in some way offensive to the faith I hope that the Archbishop will not hesitate to smite this post from the board.

Secondly, I'm hoping you can help me to spread the word and stuff. If
you're in a group or on a mailing list whose members, you think, either
may have heard of me or may have respect for acts of heroic stupidity
like this, then please point them at my blog.

my emphasis

I hope that the denizens of this board would qualify in either category. I will pledge a small sum as I think it is a good cause and I do indeed respect acts of heroic stupidity. Also I'm behind on charitable acts this year and I'm worried that Earl Hickey may be right Wink

I should emphasise that this is a personal decision and is in no way an attempt to curry favour or cast to aspersions on anybody who for whatever reason doesn't want to give up their hard earned cash.

Apologies for the length of this post but i need to outline the background to my theological question:

Does the prophet's writing concerning this event count as scripture? While it is not itself related to gaming, i note that the prophet did use AD&D as a method of raising money for charity on one occaision. So I'm a bit confused. Should I ensure my PCs have special walking socks?

It's a tricky one. We first have to address the issue of whether or not the prophet actually said these things:

Quote:
And on Usenet, the Prophet didst say: "Check your attributions: I did not write the paragraph you claim I did." [Sayings 1, Verse 7]

Then we have the already established area of theology regarding the Prophet's Usenet quotes that are not part of the Book of James:

Quote:
Should We Not Look On Usenet To See The Context In Which The Prophet's Sayings Were Uttered?

No. This is a common misunderstanding about the status of the Authorised Book of James. The books stands alone, as a guide and repository. It is not an index to further information, and it must not be used as such. The Prophet himself pointed out that information should be judged for what it is, and not for the context in which it is said when he pointed out that a joke about a stick is funny regardless of the context in which it is made. [Sayings 8, Verse 7]

I think therefore, the cautious attitude would be to say that the Prophet's new works are not full scripture... at least until they can be placed into an expanded Book of James.

(And frankly, it's very difficult to run a religion when the person being worshipped suddenly reappears and starts saying things).
